Here we go

Updated: Dec 22, 2018

I’ve always wanted to write. As a youngster, I wanted to write great stories inspired by the epic worlds created by J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and David Gemmell. The ideas were there, but not the belief to let them grow and put them down on paper.

Today, seeking inspiration from ideas such as Mark Twain's quote,

“Continuous improvement is better than delayed perfection.”

I’m finally venturing into the world of blogging. It’s not a novel and I’d be surprised if this ever became a 3 part movie series, but it is a start!

So why start now?

Around a year ago I started my own company, ‘Agile Business Transformations Ltd’ to help clients create great products and improve their ways of working such that their teams were able to find meaning and fulfilment in their work.

This blog has been started to share my thoughts and experiences in Agile, Scrum, Kanban, change, transformation, human nature and culture to contribute to the growing community of Agile and related change practitioners.

If you’re involved in these areas then I hope you'll find something useful here that you can take away and experiment with. Or at the very least, that it provide you with something to think about.

I’m going to try and keep things positive and write with an open mind and willingness to share new ideas and concepts. I hope you’ll get value from this and join me on the ongoing agile journey of discovery and growth as we first seek to improve ourselves and then improve the way we serve our clients and their businesses.

It’s for more than just the Agile folk

What about the people who aren’t software developers, Scrum Masters, Agile coaches, product owners or leaders in transformation and culture change. Is this where you walk away? I hope not. As somebody who didn’t have a technical background or start in IT myself, I can relate to the challenges many people face when Agile pops up in an organisation. You get all these happy people walking around in jeans and t-shirts with post-its falling out of their pockets, playing with lego and talking about how the ways of working are going to change, quality and products/services are going to improve and customers and colleagues are going to be happier.

It all sounds very exciting, but how do you engage with it, what are the things you ought to learn, how do you get involved and contribute, what is this new language and why can’t any of the Agile experts agree on things? These are some of the challenges I had to work through.  So if this sounds familiar then stick around for future posts where we’ll explore some of these topics.

Now, if you’ve read this far, I thank you for giving me your valuable time and invite you to look out for future posts and articles. I do hope you’ll support with encouragement and feedback that’s going to help the blog, and it’s readers improve and make positive changes.

Thank you all once again.
