'In March we were heroes, now we've already been forgotten’
Whether in a quiet moment of reflection or a painful moment of tragedy, many of us will be hoping that things will change in the future.
Changes in the way we value and respect people and not just their salaries, attitudes towards science and data, the way we support and care for our elderly, the nature of travel, work, the environment and the role of the state.
Surely now, things will really change for the better. It’s the only rational thing right, it’s got to drive huge changes in how we live in the future ..?
But is that a given?
Reading ‘Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance’ we came across the quote we’ve shared in the image.
This and the experiences of the Italian doctors in the news report (link below) made us wonder just how much things will change? Feel different, look different, yes - but will they be different in the lasting way we would expect given the pain the world has endured thus far e.g. wildfires or the current pandemic?
One can hope that we’re able to work on our ‘patterns of thought’ as Pirsig described it, to bring about a new way of thinking - to drive the change we want to see. If it can be done, we’ll all have a part to play in it somewhere.
